The Hentschel
Story
Take comfort in knowing the art of handcrafted workmanship is
alive and well at Hentschel. Each clock is hand-assembled and
hand-finished in seven separate painstaking steps. No assembly
line finishes here. We create quality, family heirlooms ...one
clock at a time. A Hentschel grandfather clock, with its heritage,
adds immensely to its legacy as a family heirloom. Exquisite
beauty and harmonious design render any Hentschel grandfather
clock a joy to own and pass on from generation to generation.
Building masterpieces of the woodworker’s art and the
timekeeper’s science
While others have been constantly looking for ways to speed
up production and cut costs, we have been content to continue
our hand built tradition, one precious clock at a time, just
as we did in 1890. Over the years, our tools and techniques have
been modernised but our commitment to Old World craftsmanship
and pride our workmanship remains unchanged. We take particular
pride in the quality of each clock we make, and for good reason.
Every step in the building of our cabinets is performed by our
craftsmen to an exacting standard established by our founders
over 114 years ago.
Our building process starts with the wood selection. Unlike
many of our competitors, all our cabinets are solid wood, and
we hand select only the finest aged and cured hardwoods and veneers
available. With each step of the shaping, assembly, and finishing,
the wood is treated with great care and respect. When you see
one of our clocks that care and respect is evident in the luster
of the finish and in the inner beauty coaxed out from deep inside
the wood. Each Hentschel grandfather clock has a high quality,
German design movement. The movement rhythmically chimes the
classic cathedral melodies of Westminster, Whittington, or St.
Michael.
Heirloom quality
‘Quality cannot be rushed’, that’s one of
those old sayings everyone at Hentschel live by.
All our clocks are built at a careful pace, to an exacting standard
unparalleled in the industry. Our clocks can take several days
of painstaking, labour intensive handcraftsmanship. That care
ensures each owner that their clock investment will last generations.
Our history has proven great care built into each Hentschel
grandfather clock ensures the timepiece becomes a treasured family
heirloom passing from generation to generation within the family.
Many of those families find the soothing tick tock and the melodic
chimes of their grandfather clock remind them of simpler, unhurried
times when family traditions were of great importance.
